Christopher Raeburn

Young designers who has produced many collections including transparent garments/ outwear from plastic. Shows its a great fabric to work with as its 100% waterproof and creates a different twist on garments.

Fabrics

While in London a visit to Berwick street was a must for visiting the fantastic fabric shops while keeping the trench project in mind..

The fabrics themselves were definitely inspiring themselves with the quality and textures.

I'd been thinking about possible fabric choices for the trench collection, however nothing had been finalised, some research into rubber had been done and a fabric sample back of rubber had been delivered to me to look at. Once i had the feel for rubber I then expanded my thoughts onto plastic while searching around the Berwick fabric shops where i bought some stiff plastic (inserts onto the leather in mind) and some softer much more flexible plastic which would be great for an effective transparent trench.

The Hood

The trench collection is for the Autumn/ Winter 2010 season so I thought why not add hoods? they are practical and can be a fab feature of the coat.. right?? I dont want a normal hood, that would be plain and possibly boring. Buy an OVERSIZED hood to contrast the slim fitting trench coat.

Here's some examples of some great sized hoods which are already out there.. :

There are a few hooded trench coats already out there, however they are nothing out of the ordinary as they are normal in size and have no eye catching properties.

SIlhouette

As this project is using research from the previous project I have decided to use a few of the basic silhouette as it will link in with the whole collection, along with being on the trend for Autumn/Winter 2012.

Chosen silhouette to manipulate and design from:

Finalised Colour Palette

After several colour tests I finalised my palette.

I am pleased with this palette as it has rich tones but are dull so they portray the Autumn/ Winter feel which I want, they are also a little bit different from the classic trench colours which leads in to the twist on the iconic trench.

Colour Palette

Keeping the original colour palette:

I have decided to select three colours to create my trench coat palette, I feel three is a good amount as it is enough to bind the 4-6 coat collection along with having variety. I did several tests with the colour palette ensuring the final one is a strong set of colours providing the tones and connection I want.

Detailing

While looking at designer references its clear the classic trench shape is kept the same but the detailing within each designer is extremely different, from adding more lapels, to bigger buttons to double stitching.

Designer trenches

The iconic trench by the creator of the trench itself... BURBERRY!

These designers are the basic trench, however the classic style is kept throughout the collections with a few key pieces of selective designers being a new and fresh approach to the iconic trench..

Final presentation boards

Presentation pages to sum up the project

Technical flats...

after creating the designs more thought has to go into them with the technical flats and creating them to a high standard where they would be able to be sent off and made in a correct way. Example of technical flat pages which were attached in the technical flat booklet.

Final designs

So after a hard 2/3 weeks designing iv finally got my final collection line up including 12 outfits which all link together creating a strong bond with each other.
